Also, it is very important that all families have the most up to date contact information listed in Infinite Campus. With new visitor protocols, our school staff relies on this information to ensure you are receiving all the up to date school and classroom information. It is also very important that we can reach you quickly if your student is sick or there is an emergency.

COVID DATA AND SYMPTOMS

In an effort to still track return to school dates for students, we would like you to continue to notify your student's school when they have symptoms, have tested positive or have been a close contact/household contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID.

ATTENDANCE

If your child is going to be absent or late for school for any reason, please contact the office at 920-424-0172.  If we are unable to speak to us directly, you may leave a message on the voice mail system to report the absence.  Please be specific when calling your child in. If it is an illness we do need to know all the symptoms the child is having as well as the best number to reach you at if we have any further questions. Absences are considered "unexcused" if we do not hear from a parent/guardian by 9 am.  Students who are absent from school more than 10 minutes of any part of the day without a proper excuse shall be recorded as unexcused.  A student who is absent less than 10 minutes of a day shall be recorded as tardy.  The time a student enters or leaves the building will be documented, and the system will calculate the absence accordingly and uniformly across the district.  Please keep this in mind as you schedule appointments for your children.  It is always best to schedule appointments during non-school hours.  Students are expected to be in class from 7:45 to 2:45 daily.

BRRRR...It's COLD outside! 

With the weather being much cooler please make sure your child(ren) is dressed appropriately for school. Our district's guidelines are as follows:

• Below 50 degrees-coat required
• Between 50-60 degrees-Long sleeves needed
• 61 degrees and over -students choice (shorts are allowed)

WINTER WEATHER:

• Boots, Snowpants and winter jackets are required to play on the snow.
• Also remember hats, gloves and scarves for extra warmth.
• Recesses will be outdoors unless the temperature is below 10 degrees or the wind chill is below zero.

 Packing Extra Pants/Clothes for all students/Clothing Donations Needed

With the weather getting a little warmer, please pack at least an extra pair of pants for your child in case he/she gets them wet at recess, spills on them or has an accident. We are especially requesting this for older students as we do not have any clothing in their sizes. We are asking this so the student can return to the learning environment much sooner than waiting for a parent to bring clothing for them to change into.

Out of District Enrollment Information

(For Requests to attend a school OUTSIDE the Oshkosh Area School District)
Public School Open Enrollment to Other School Districts
 Applications due by 4:00 p.m. on April 29, 2022 
Wisconsin's inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply
for their children to attend school districts other than the one in which they live.
Students in 4-year-old Kindergarten to Grade 12 may apply to participate in open
enrollment. Parents should call their resident school districts to find out if their
preschool-aged children qualify for open enrollment.
The open enrollment application period for the 2022-23 school year is From February 7-
April 29, 2022. Late applications will not be accepted for any reason.
Parents may apply in one of two ways:
 On-line (recommended) at https://dpiwi gov/open-enrollment. (Accessible as of
February 7, 2022.)
Although on-line application is recommended, paper applications may be obtained from
the Student Information Services Manager at 215 South Eagle Street and must be
delivered (hand-delivery is recommended) to the nonresident school district.

EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY'S

Please mark your calendars for the early dismissal dates this year.

School will dismiss at 12:30 and there are NO 4K classes on Early Release Days.

After School Programs

The school day ends at 2:45 and students must be picked up at that time. If you are unable to pick up your student at this time and they are not able to walk home, students must then be enrolled in one of the after care programs that are available. There is the YMCA after school program, which is held in house but run by the YMCA. The other  program is the Boys & Girls club. A bus will pick them up from school and transport them to the club. You can call either the YMCA at (920)236-3380 or the Boys & Girls Club at (920)233-1414 to inquire about either of these options.

WASP

On early release Wednesdays only, Algoma United Methodist Church next door to Read has an after school program from 12:30-2:45. If you are interested in learning more about this you can call our office at 920-424-0172 and let us know the name of the student you'd like us to send the form home with. or you can call the church at 920-231-2800.

Read Across America is this week. Watch for the theme days! On Wednesday, March 2nd we will have a special video and read aloud from the Oshkosh Public Library for students to listen to. We are celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers and have a display up in the library, too!

Please make sure your child is taking good care of their chromebook. They are covered by warranty, but only for accidental damage and you only get one freebie per student. After that, chromebook damages are charged to your IC account. To find out more about the policy, check the LWOL Handbook. Please encourage students to use their devices responsibly. Lately we have seen an increase in breaks due to headphones broken in jacks and keyboard damage due to food/beverage being consumed near the device. If your classroom has your student take devices home, please check each morning to make sure your child is taking it to school. 

Our focus for Digital Citizenship this month is Privacy & Security. The questions we are reviewing in class are:

• What information is OK to have in your digital footprint?

• How does what I post online affect my identity?

• How does our online activity affect the digital footprints of ourselves and others?

• How do gender stereotypes shape our experiences online?

If the media staff comes into the classroom to teach this lesson, your child will be sent home with a paper copy of a family follow-up activity that is optional. Teachers will also link this in their newsletters.
